Dear student, dear parent,

It is my firm belief that every child has the right to be able to play an instrument. I personally teach piano, but any other will also enrich a child's joy in expressing herself or himself.

I have been teaching piano for the last 42 years: At the British School of the Netherlands and in my private practice in The Hague.

Some of my students like to take exams that enable them to measure their progress. Others enjoy improving at their own pace. The most important aspect is that the student enjoys playing through years of work and development.

Learning the piano consists of three essential elements:

  • Interest and desire to learn
  • Excellent teaching
  • Daily contact with the piano

A child should ask for lessons, or parents introduce the idea.
Good teaching consists of two parts: physical and mental learning. Teaching a student correct finger, hand, and arm movements, but also reading and listening skills, is vital.
It is crucial to encourage students to practice (the daily "hello" to the piano) and reward them for good work.

The discipline that children develop through studying an instrument brings benefits to their daily life. Regular practice increases their focus and discipline in another subject.

In my last 42 years of teaching, I enjoyed following my students' progress. I regularly arrange concerts for them to celebrate music.

My abiding interest in teaching piano is discovering the diversity of children's abilities, desires, and talents. And by that, music is born.

Sincerely yours,

Beatrice Veselicova
